Notes: A fill for the Summer Spinoff prompt list over at [personal profile] elasticella's journal.

Anahi lay with her back to the ground and her belly to the sky, a gesture of resignation, of resigning, those two being different but of the same ilk.

The sky was black, the stars unfamiliar. The earth was red, the smell as foreign as she was to it, but as familiar to her blood as was its colour.

Anahi was spoilt, spoiled goods, a daughter of a daughter who had run away from home. A daughter of a princess who had shirked a nation's responsibility. That made her a princess, too, two times over if one obsessed over the comingling of bloodlines. Yet if someone were to obsess over bloodlines one would also obsess over her intractability. Intractability in the blood and therefore intractable in womb; her blood had been sullied before she even arrived in this place, and she, facing inward, could never find peace. Facing outward, there seemed none to be had, either.

All save that tonight she lay with her back to the ground, voice raised to the night. The moon outweighed the glossy nebula that marked this sky as alien from her home in Urdasvale. The pale face of her compatriot outranked the moon, too, when she surged up Anahi's body to press a kiss upon her, to drape over her and warm her and refuse the cooling of sweat on goose-prickled bare flesh. Not bare for long.

Later that night they will give in to the blood that throbs in their hearts, and run on all fours, kick up dust on pelts that will shed by morning. They might let blood, and they might sully others, but Anahi is unwilling to remain chained like a dog in a home she was requested to return to. There is no future here for her, except for what they can take.
